PROXX

By Google Chrome Labs (Surma, Jake Archibald, Mariko Kosaka, Paul Kinlan) · 2019

Play:

Touch: tap a cell to clear it; a Clear/Flag switch at the bottom of the screen swaps taps to flagging instead · Keyboard: arrow keys move the focus between cells, Enter reveals the focused one

About:

Google's Chrome team built PROXX in 2019 to prove a browser game could run on almost anything, including a KaiOS feature phone, and it backs that up: every cell carries a screen-reader label, the whole board plays with arrow keys and Enter alone, and a Clear/Flag switch at the bottom gives touchscreens a real answer to Minesweeper's right-click-to-flag problem.

Underneath the interface work, the game itself is unchanged — the same random mine placement and the same three difficulty presets Windows shipped in 1990, down to the safe first click and the 50/50 guesses at the end. The reason to open it is what the controls do, not what the puzzle adds.
