HexGL

By Thibaut Despoulain (BKcore) · 2012

Play:

Touch: steer by tilting the phone, or with the on-screen pads · Keyboard: arrows or WASD to steer, shift to brake

About:

HexGL is what people pointed at in 2012 when they wanted to argue the browser could be a games platform. It is a WipEout-shaped racer — magnetic ship, banked tunnels, a shield that drains when you scrape a wall — running on Three.js at a real frame rate.

It is the heaviest game on this shelf by a distance, so give it a moment to load, and play it in landscape with Maximise on.

Phone check: 2026-09-08: retrospective review - confirmed touch controls genuinely functional on a simulated phone: a real touch hold on the on-screen ACCEL pad took speed from 0 to 343 with visible thrust, and a real drag on the TURN pad while accelerating caused a strong enough steering deviation to crash the ship off the track (DESTROYED). Desktop keyboard turning confirmed via visible ship banking. No third-party analytics found.
